Hemel Hempstead Ski Slope
DLA secured full planning permission for this £23m snow sports centre in Hemel Hempstead.
It boasts 8000sqm of real snow slopes, a 160m main slope and Britain’s largest indoor lesson slope. It was used as the training base for Chanel 4’s The Jump.
A significant urban site, formerly a dry ski slope, it is surrounded by development on all sides, including a large residential housing estate and therefore required a scheme that was a landmark design and technically functional but also sensitive to nearby residential occupiers. An innovative design solution, which included (at the time) Britain’s largest green roof, opened in 2009.
