Gabriel Square, St Albans
This long term vacant (15 years), former industrial site within a conservation area had a checkered history of unsuccessful applications for redevelopment including a Tesco store.
DLA were appointed to work with Spenhill to secure planning permission for 80 units in the form of a modern interpretation of a garden square. A sensitive but robust development solution was required for this tightly enclosed site within the conservation area, surrounded by primarily Victorian terraces.
Planning permission was granted for this site and it has won the Home of the Year award in the The Sunday Times British Homes Awards 2017 for its design.
